Who We Are
New Roots Scotland is a registered Scottish charity (OSCR SC055231) based in the heart of Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire. We operate as a grassroots community hub dedicated to fighting isolation, poverty, and systemic inequalities across the Glasgow and East Dunbartonshire regions.
Our primary focus is to serve and empower ethnic minority communities, refugees, asylum seekers, isolated individuals, the elderly, and young people. By providing safe, welcoming spaces and structured activities, we help individuals establish new roots in Scotland while building bridges of understanding and cohesion with the wider local community.
We are proud to say that all of our programs, ranging from physical boxing classes to intensive psychology and rights awareness workshops, are 100% free of charge and run entirely by passionate volunteer coaches, facilitators, and organizers.

Official Scottish Charity Status
New Roots Scotland is registered with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) under Charity Number SC055231. Our operations, finances, and governance align strictly with Scottish charity regulations to ensure absolute transparency and funder compliance.
Our Mission
To actively fight isolation, poverty, and social exclusion by establishing grassroots programs that promote physical, mental, and social wellbeing. We aim to foster true community integration, support the integration of refugees and asylum seekers, and build deep, lasting community cohesion in Glasgow and East Dunbartonshire.
Our Vision
We envision a welcoming, vibrant, and resilient Scotland where every individual, regardless of their background, race, or economic standing, feels safe, integrated, and empowered to contribute. We strive for a society free from the barriers of poverty and isolation, rooted in mutual respect and shared prosperity.
Our Core Values
We ensure everyone, regardless of their background, country of origin, or age, finds a warm, supportive community and a sense of true belonging in Scotland.
We don't just provide services; we build pathways. We support refugees, asylum seekers, and ethnic minorities to navigate Scottish systems and actively lead programs.
We firmly believe that economic status should never limit community connection. All our classes and drop-ins are run by passionate volunteers and are 100% free.
Our Strategic Impact
We design our programs around clear social indicators and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to deliver measurable, sustainable local outcomes.
Reducing Inequalities (SDG 10)
We empower marginalized ethnic minorities, refugees, and asylum seekers by offering Rights Awareness Workshops and free social spaces, lowering barriers to full integration in Scottish society.
Good Health & Wellbeing (SDG 3)
Our boxing classes and elderly dance classes promote cardiovascular and physical health, while our specialized psychology workshops support mental resilience and stress management.
No Poverty & Social Exclusion (SDG 1)
By maintaining a strict "100% Free" policy on all services, we guarantee that individuals experiencing extreme financial hardship and poverty can access premium physical, educational, and mental support.
Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17)
We actively collaborate with local authorities, other Scottish charities, health boards, and grassroots groups to build a strong ecosystem of care and mutual support in East Dunbartonshire.
